State of Emergency and Information Regarding Upcoming Inclement Weather

 

Hurricane Laura is expected make landfall on the Louisiana coast and arrive in DeSoto Parish early Thursday morning. The Forecast indicates pockets of rain in excess of 5 inches and 50+ mph winds during the day. The public is urged to avoid flooded roadways.

The DeSoto Parish Road Department, located at 424 Liberty Lane Grand Cane, LA, is providing sandbags to DeSoto Parish citizens today. The hours of operation are 6:00 am until 6:00 pm through Thursday. Due to the inclement weather, DeSoto Parish schools and the Mundy Landfill will be closed on Thursday. The Landfill will reopen on Friday with extended hours on both Friday and Saturday.

The National Guard has high water vehicles and boats available for emergency rescues. Assistance for breathing machine patients will be available at DeSoto EMS and the local hospital. Shelter space is limited but if needed, please contact the Sheriff’s Department for information.
